Neil AYREY Obituary

With deep sadness we announce the passing of Neil on Saturday, November 29, 2025, aged 85 years. Loved and cherished by his children, Alison, and Matthew, and his grandchildren, Oliver, and Liam, and best friend of Marion. He will always be cherished and in our hearts. Messages may be addressed to the family, c/- PO Box 39127, Christchurch 8545. The Funeral Service for Neil will be held in our AvonPark Chapel, corner Kerrs and Pages Roads, Linwood, on Friday, December 5, at 10.30am.

Neil taught me and many others how to drive the winch to launch gliders.
On one memorable occasion the winch slid along wet grass as the launch began, I was a bit perturbed and wondered if I'd done the right thing by continuing until the glider was high enough to safely release then cut the power. I looked at Neil who was observing and he said "thats all you could have done" He was a keen observer of many things and a good teacher. He will be missed at the airfield.
