Natalie LOFTS Obituary

Devoted wife of the late Bernard, passed away, aged 97, at 0035 on Friday, July 19, 2024, at Christchurch Hospital following an irreparable stroke. She was peaceful and deeply asleep well before the end, so in no pain or distress. Her granddaughter Cleo and I were with her throughout her ordeal. She has been a devoted loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to us and a great friend to many. She was also a truly remarkable and gifted teacher of deaf children and an extremely accomplished organic gardener. She truly had "green thumbs" and she loved bees. There will be a simple cremation but no service. Natalie has requested that her ashes be scattered later on the Rock and Pillar range above Middlemarch in Central Otago, where she was brought up in the Black family. We will miss her terribly, but now let us honour and celebrate her beautiful personality and her blessed life. She loved bird watching, contract bridge games, playing Scrabble, doing cryptic crosswords, and reading voraciously. She became tech savvy with iPhone and iPad in her late 80s and communicated with us regularly. Please light a candle or pick/plant a flower to remember her as the most wonderful, wise, and caring person she was over such a long lifetime. Thank you all ("Dear hearts and darlings") so much for your overwhelming love and support. We really appreciate what you have done for Granny Nat and her family. Our grateful thanks to the doctors and nurses for their compassionate care at the Medical Assessment ward and B5, Christchurch Hospital. Any messages for the Lofts family c/o PO Box 26112, Christchurch 8148. Julian, Jason, Cleo, Felix, Lionel, Claire, Remy and Sage.

I can´t believe she´s gone! I think I spoke to her just prior to her flying away! She was her usual positive self! I met Natalie when I was around 3 years old. We lived opposite then and I believe I popped in and introduced myself! I was `dear one´ and we went on to have some adventures! Having gone to school with the twins although they were younger I was always in awe of her. My mother enjoyed Nat´s company and so for many years she was part of our family. I felt proud to know her after learning about how she taught the deaf to speak! And then she visited Rewi Allie! After living in Auckland for some time we were happy that she came to stay with us! We also got to know Colin or Blackie her kind brother!
I´m am so sad she´s gone. She was the last person to remember me as a child. We kept in touch with phone calls, visits and emails! We will miss her deeply and send our love and thoughts to her family!
Much love Georgie and Kim Eschweiler Motueka

Julian this bought treats to my eyes... such a beautiful, heartfelt, real, flowing, eloquent story of your Mum. It took me right to her old garden and the tussy mussies (which weirdly I've just been to a garden club meeting this morning where the presenter was making them). I learnt about them from your Mum. And " dear hearts and darlings". I see her in the old kitchen. I'm so pleased, tough as it is, that you and dear Cleo could represent your family so courageously and lovingly and be there when Jason, Felix, Lionel, Claire, Remy and Sage were caught miles away. Robyn and girls.
