Nancy GRANT Obituary

GRANT, Nancy Isabel:
On March 24, 2022, Nancy Grant passed away aged 92 after a brief illness in Christchurch. An accomplished pianist, career physiotherapist and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. An innovator in post cardiac rehabilitation, a board member in the National Heart Foundation and active in post cardiac recovery through the Otago Phoenix Club. Nancy was notable for promoting physical activity after a heart attack, when bed rest was the recommended treatment. Her empathy and encouragement extended the quality of life for heart attack patients at a most vulnerable time, a wellness concept which we take for granted today. Always conducting herself with style; Nancy was in her element surrounded by her garden, her piano, her family, and her many friends. She is survived by her husband of 62 years Ron, her children, Iain and Jennifer of Columbus, Ohio, Andrew and Hui Meng of Singapore, James and Lisa of Auckland, Penny and Simon of Upper Moutere, Jane Douglas of Auckland, and her devoted grandchildren, Jessica, Louie, Emily, Brianna, Ella, Olivia, Alex, Bridget, and Charlotte. Special thanks to Ngaio Marsh Retirement Village, Christchurch Hospital, Karen, and her staff in Ward A4, anesthetists, cardiology and surgical teams. In celebration of her life, a service will be held at St Barnabas Church, 143 Fendalton Road, Christchurch, on March 31, at 1.00pm. Ron and Nancy's family welcome messages regarding your shared memories with Nancy to: [email protected]. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Dame Malvina Major Foundation (https://dmmfoundation.org.nz) PO Box 9976, Wellington 6141.

Nancy Grant was full of joie de vivre and she lit up the room with her energy. She was always interested in you as a person and always made sure that she spent the time to catch up on your life. She was an inspiration on how to age gracefully and showed us all how to always stay young despite her age. She will be missed at all our family gatherings.
