Met Murray in Greymouth in 1969, both working for Ministry of Works (MOW), Murray in Engineering Surveys, myself in Hydrological Survey. Three of us from Canterbury rented a house in Cobden and flatted together. Following year both in MOW Christchurch Surveys and frequently worked together on a survey to design a replacement bridge over the Leader River at Parnassus, being accommodated at the Waiau Hotel, Waiau. A young, recently graduated school teacher boarded at the hotel and shared the dining room with us. By the end of the year, Murray had moved on to Road Carpets in Christchurch and myself to Lincoln College. Over the years our paths have frequently crossed, especially at the Christchurch Town Hall. Murray has always been good company, a friend and a professional and reliable workmate. Our condolences to Murray's family for their loss.
