Our thoughts are with you all and to a wonderful and lifelong friend of my mother Pauline Stewart. I have lived in Queensland over forty years and was only just informed of Winsome´s death via my very old aunty who lives in Timaru who sent me the notice in I think the Timaru newspaper.
My mother Pauline along with Winsome and Ruth Bell were the best of friends through Training College and teaching in London together around 1953. Although we left our Morven farm when I was only six and we went to the West coast on a dairy farm I do well remember visiting your family and sometimes meeting up with the Bell family also for a day together. But Pauline, Winsome and Ruth were the closest of mates who experienced some wonderful times together both teaching and in their travels and adventures in London. My siblings and I would be told so many stories of the long boat trip over or the Queen´s Coronation or their time shared in Dunedin. Pauline became quite ill 20 odd years ago and passed away a few years later but I know they corresponded regularly and always kept in touch. I am not sure at all where Ruth Bell is or if she is still alive?
A side story. Pauline´s brother Michael was editor of the Christchurch Star newspaper for many years before moving to Auckland and he wrote an entertaining and interesting article on his sister and her two teaching friends and their experiences in England as three young kiwi girls. The article was written several years after they returned from overseas and printed in the Christchurch paper. Unfortunately Michael passed away many years ago also but no doubt it is somewhere archived.
So I was grateful my Aunty sent me the clipping. Ailsa was also a school teacher ( my Dad Eric´s sister) but did not no Winsome as well as Pauline or Ruth.
Take care everyone and I certainly have fond memories mainly through my mother´s stories of Winsome, Ruth and Pauline.
Regards Peter and Serena Stewart

Sincere condolences to the family of Winsome. I have very special memories of her as my Pony club instructor. A small group of us spent weekends on the farm at Waitohi with our ponies, she made horsemanship and learning fun. She was always so encouraging and enthusiastic. These memories are 40 yrs old, but I treasure them to this day.
