Michael POHIO Obituary

From Te Rekohu o Wharekauri (Chatham Islands), peacefully passed away (age 70 years) from an enduring illness, at the Nurse Maude Palliative Care Hospice, Merivale, Christchurch, on Sunday, June 8, 2025. The youngest son of the late Thelma Eileen Pohio (nee Black) of Ngati Mutunga and the late Arnold Mawheranui Pohio of Ngai Tahu, and younger brother of Chadric Paniora Morrell Pohio (Chatham Islands), James Irai Pohio (Christchurch), and Karen Ruth Pohio (Seattle, USA). Much loved 'Uncle Mike' of niece Leveaux Kataraina Pohio (Auckland), and nephew Karl Anthony Pohio (Australia), and grandniece of Pania Rose Pohio-Banfield and grandnephew of Anaru Arthur Pohio-Banfield (Auckland). Born and who knew where he stood in life. A loyal friend, straight up, forthright, a man of mana who honored his word. Arohanui ki a koe Michael, moe mai ra. Whanau and friends can pay their respects to Michael, This Day (Monday), from 1.00pm at The Rapaki Marae. The Funeral Service will be held at The Rapaki Marae on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, commencing at 1100 hrs, followed by Private Cremation.
