Michael MOORE Obituary

MOORE,
Michael John Brian:
On May 22, 2020, Michael passed away suddenly, aged 48, in Sydney, in the company of his much loved family Louise, Giselle, and Alexander. Michael was the proud son of Margaret and Brian, and a dearly adored brother of Sarah and Marcus. He had a special kinship with both Mark and Alice, and was sage Uncle 'Mickey' to Tobias, Felix, Elliot, Lucia, Olivia, and Isobel. Mike maintained a strong bond with Ben and Leila; and with Uncle John and other extended whãnau in Whanganui. He shared together with Monica and David Jackson and their wider family many treasured times in Sydney and Noosa. Michael's intelligence, his spirited conviviality and his kindness touched many. He would be so truly glad of all the thoughts and messages from his friends and associates at this time.
Vivere memento!
Rem tene, verba sequentur.

A funeral ceremony will be held in Sydney, with a memorial service in Christchurch, NZ, at a later time.

I knew Michael as "Burger" and as an exceptional guy with both humour and intelligence who was always good to be around.

Dear Margaret, Brian, Sarah and Marcus
I was so very sad to hear about Michael's death, he was one of the nicest young men to become friends of our children Richard, Kate and George, he was always welcomed into our house. And l enjoyed seeing him when he was flatting with Kate in Christchurch. Also in London with Sarah.
It's so unfair, he was too young to die.
My thoughts are with you all at this very sad time of your life.

Dear Brian, Margaret, Sarah, Marcus and spouses. I am truely sorry for our loss, not many days from today! Words cannot express loss eloquently for each individual, so I will share a memories of a fine, fun loving, brilliant man called Michael The Burger' Moore. Michael still holds (I stand to be corrected) the high score of a North Canterbury 4th grade cricket match - Swannanoa cricket team vs Fernside-Ashgrove, as Michael bludgeoned' 171 n.o. In a record never to be emulated. Michael while brilliant in mind and deeds of the mind still stands in my memory as a truely loyal, fun loving friend with the best laugh and humour to match!

As a new chemistry lecturer at the University of Canterbury (Mark Rees was my first PhD student), I used to play touch football and drink beer with Michael in the mid-1990s. To say he made an impression for life is an understatement - he was a uniquely talented individual who brought enjoyment and insight to the lives of everyone around him. My sincere condolences to all Michael's loved ones over his untimely death. Please make sure you let me know when his memorial service in Christchurch will be held ([email protected]) - thank-you, and RIP Michael.
