I remember Mervyn from Christchurch Technical College when I was going through a very difficult and angry stage of my life. He was the only person who seemed to believe in me, and who encouraged me. Years later I was also working in the legal field, in Clarendon Tower, and was able to tell him how much his encouragement so many years ago, had meant to me. A gentleman, and a true inspiration. My condolences to his family.

Many good memories of an amazing boss - an interesting job when I was only 18 and introduced to the other side of life. It was an education I will never forget. RIP Mervyn.

My condolences to Jenephur and Mervyn's relatives. My association was purely thespian. I was first on stage with him in Julius Caesar in the early 60s and in Romeo and Juliet jn the late 90s, with several plays in between. He was larger than life, and his obituaries reveal much about the rest of his life i did not know. I hope he was happy in exile from quake-ridden Christchurch

Feeling for your loss Jenepher, you have been extremely dedicated to Mervyn's care over recent years.
I fondly recall some of the exploits of my famous Uncle - the tipsy Bottom that made Ngiao Marsh so cross, the thespian parties on top of St. Elmo Courts ....no space for more here - sorely missed.
