Sr Mary was a very special person, she was there for me whilst at Villa, and also later as a Chaplin at Christchurch hospital.

So sad to hear of St Mary's passing. She was an amazing head of Villa for such a long time. She was truly good to everyone, kind and fair and really cared. While I was more often than not in her office for all the wrong reasons, I see now that she genuinely cared for her girls. No matter what trouble you were in. RIP Sr Mary. Top lady xxx

Sr Mary has been around so long, it seemed she would go on forever! What a well-lived life she has had. She started as Principal the first year I was at Villa Maria. She knew all our names, and remembered them in the years after if we ever met, and wanted to know how we were doing. She was a simply marvelous example of humanity, much respected and appreciated. She will be long remembered.

Sister Mary, (Sr. Bede) taught me Latin in 1970 and my wife and I have been very fortunate to see Sister Mary on a regular basis over the last 18 months while visiting Nazareth House.
Sr Mary would still test my Latin.
We will miss seeing her on our visits, as she was a huge presence at Nazareth House.
Requiescat in pace.

Sister Mary Hanrahan was a beautiful and wonderful caring lady. She lived her life through her Catholic faith.
She made me feel very supported and loved. One of the best principals I have ever had.
Always was very interested in what you were doing even after leaving school and was a wonderful Religious Education teacher in my later years at Villa Maria.

Such an amazing woman who had a huge heart. I will always remember the care, support and encouragement she gave me not just as a high school student but through my adult years too. She had so much to give.
God bless

Fond memories of dear Sr Mary. She ensured so many of the students at Villa were on the right track and greeted us in later years with much fondness. She was a long time family friend as well, and was unbelievably kind to my mother in her later years. A truly good woman spreading God's word
God rest her soul.

I am saddened to hear of Sr. Mary's passing she was a beautiful lady who always had a smile and radiated happiness. It is not always easy to carry your cross but Mary was always dignified. God will be waiting with arms opened to receive a beautiful soul. Sorry I am not able to attend Mass but my prayers and thoughts are for you all. God's Blessings on you all. Myra Barry
