Mark RYAN Obituary

RYAN, Mark Ignatius:
12 September 1955 -
31 December 2022
Mark 'slipped the surly bonds of this world' suddenly and unexpectedly doing what he loved best – working on his beloved farm. He was a fun, funny, loyal "good man" (one of his favourite expressions). He loved being outdoors on the farm, his 'wee angel' and family. He was constantly running into old rugby mates and had a passion for the game. I used to joke that he had 'rugby balls' for pupils. His favourite Sunday afternoon pastime was heeding the 'siren's call' of 'Cave Pub' – a place where everyone knew his name. Did I mention he could be frustratingly stubborn? He was a 'non-material guy' who always flew coach and was happiest driving his ancient tractor. He will be sorely missed.
Gone too soon and forever in my heart – rest in peace Mark, your loving partner Jill.
There will be a gathering to celebrate Mark's life and share memories on Friday, January 6, at the Pleasant Point Rugby Club Rooms at 3.00pm.

Pretty shocked to hear of one of the toughest but most interested cousin´s passing. Only caught up at the big "Point" family funerals but always good chat. Couldn´t make this one however.
RIP Mark.

My sincere condolences to Jill and Ryan Family. Mark was a "strong character" in all respects, a good sense of humour and a bit a mischief. I first knew Mark at High school competing in athletics then rugby and University. We paid our way through Uni. Courtesy of Brian Dorgan (our rep rugby coach) getting us both jobs at Pareora freezing works. Mark was groomsman at Barbs and my wedding in 1978. Last had a good catchup with Mark and "session" at my Dads funeral in Sept 2001... too long ago!!
Rest In Peace my old and good friend, a special and good man!!

Hi Jill and family, Our sincere condolences and heart felt prayers are with you all. I lived at the Caledonia flat in Christchurch for a short time and always remembered Marks smirky smile as well the Race Book in his hip pocket always. Such a good man. Simple - honest and great heart for friends . He leaves us with many blessed memories.

Condolences from London. Was it 1977 when Mark and I were Groom's men for Nigel Comer? A lot of rugby, times in London and beers in Timaru (particularly with Jimmy Kyle), over the years. I had not caught up for some time but he was still a presence in my thought! RIP

Greetings Jill and family. Very fond and funny memories of Mark from Christchurch Marist and Timaru. A stunning rugby player, a great wingman in a most glorious bar fight in a bar in Breckenridge, Colorado on St Valentines Day in 1982 and a thoroughly decent mate to everyone.
Much love and RIP Mark Ryan

Mark... somebody I love to have another beer with at cave pub..

He was one of the many great Pointers that took me under their wing when over playing footy for Pleasant Point. But more so having the pleasure of staying and working at Sutherland farm. We had some good laughs... thought and talk through everything especially footie
He had me catching ewes for footy practice.... I thought that´s what the kiwis did ..... "good tackle Scottie, good man" he would say with his Mark Ryan laugh.

Will raise a glass to you Mark
Love to all you family and friends.

Will get that beer one day
