I went to the butchers today. What a tragedy. I will remember Mark for his humour, friendliness and absolutely outstanding service. Mark went so far out of his way to provide safe, low histamine meats for my young child with multiple allergies, and was so accommodating about our particular preferences. He helped me to feed my sick child and I will never forget it.

Gutted to hear this sad news. I still vividly remember my old larrikin school mate Mark from the Cashmere High days as if it was yesterday. You were a good bloke then and seems you went onto be an even better and much loved bloke through life to so many. Cheers to you.

Dear Patsy and family, You and Mark were my saviour when the Feb earthquake struck. You took me and another Diamond Harbour lady in to your home which had been severely shaken up.
You sat us down calmly and gave us both a wine, we were strangers in need of help, Patsy, you didn't hesitate. When Mark arrived home he went out of his way, and put himself in danger driving us over Dyers Pass around to Lyttelton so we could get the ferry home. My heart aches for you Patsy, I will never forget you and Mark. With love and sympathy.

I'm so very sorry to hear this news. Deepest sympathy for your family Mark. I have so many lovely memories of playing with you and Philip and Jaimie when we were children. Its incredibly sad that this has happened. From the comments here, the sweet, kind, sensitive boy I knew, obviously grew up to be just as lovely a man. Love and thoughts to Patsy, Emily and Jake.

Truly saddened by Mark's passing. He went out of his way to source food for my French Bulldog, Jorgie. Every time I went to the shop we always talked about the dogs, thanks for the chats Mark. May you RIP, condolences to the family.

I only knew Mark as the "Banfield Butcher" however I always regarded him as one of life's great people, filled with warmth, compassion and great humour. It was even obvious what a great human Mark was to one of my children when he was very young as he he talked about wanting him to be his Dad (although that could have had something to do with the free saveloys!). My heart goes out to you all for the loss of such a special person.

I am in shock that such a lovely man has left this world too soon and my heartfelt sympathy goes to Mark's family, I cannot imagine what you are going through. Mark was so kind and supportive of Thorrington School and then the Christchurch Kidney Society each year when I called him for "the best sausages in Christchurch"! He was always so welcoming and interested in how things were with our patients and asked of my family. A true legend! Rest in peace lovely man, I hope your lovely partner and family can find peace, much love.

I have known Mark since primary school days. He was a year behind me, but such was his personality l got to know him.
Their were many years where we had no contact but when we did it was if I had only seen him recently.
Mark was humorous and witty and I always enjoyed his company. This is how I will remember him.
My empathy goes out to all the people who are grieving his passing, I know I am.

Dearest Elvis, you have been such a kind generous and hilarious friend and butcher man to us. Kahu was always eager to visit you at the shop to get his 'snack' after school and stare shyly at your amazing sideburns... Your wicked sense of humour and double entendre will always shine in our memories. Arohanui ki a Patsy raua tamariki. Xxxx

BIG HUGS N LOVE FOR YOU ALL

Rebecca Bayliss

I hadn't seen you for many months after I got another job Mark, but loved coming into the shop. Mum and I used to come into the old shop too, and loved seeing you. Your shop always felt so happy, and I looked forward to your amazing smile as much as I did your superb product. You made everyone feel welcome and special, and I loved the Elvis stuff - in a world that's so grey and bleak, you were such a personality. I had no idea of your pain. I'm so, so sorry. All my love to you and your family, Rebecca Bayliss.
