Marion BAMFORD Obituary

BAMFORD, Marion:
Loving mum of Tim and Will, passed away on Friday, March 19, 2021, after a beautiful, energetic, and fulfilling life. We will never forget the joy she gave her family and friends, especially her grandchildren, Lillyann, Sophie, and Brook. In lieu of flowers, you may like to make a donation to the Upper Hutt Riding for the Disabled, where Marion was a passionate volunteer and sponsor of Skuggi (an Icelandic pony). A private function to celebrate her life will be held later this week – please contact the family for details at [email protected]

In the late 1970s Marion and I were colleagues at St Mary's College. We were asked if we would take some students on their weekend tramps for their Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award. From those activities Marion and I became good friends. We shared walking, swimming, snorkeling and, of course, chatting.
To her immediate family my heartfelt condolences.
She was a great companion and I'll cherish the very happy memories of my time spent with her.

Dear Tim, Will and members of Marion's family,
We extend our heartfelt thoughts to you. Our memories of Marion are of a strong, kind, capable and reliable fellow workmate at the Correspondence School. We feel very sad that she is no longer part of all our lives, especially yours.
Kindest regards, Gary and Shirley Morrison

Will and Tim,
Marions strength will be remembered for ever. Hopefully heaven will be warmer than the Garden of Eden snow cave we endured one night in 1971. My only concern is that JC would not have approved of her "burn the bra" editorial from Heels 1973 and may request the bra to be worn at the entrance gate. Marion was way too smart to prejudice her entry so I know she will be absolutely fine up there-until she reunites with some of us VUWTC ites for which I know she will revert to the ways we all knew so fondly of her.

Marion was a dearly loved friend and colleague. She was a dedicated and highly effective teacher, whom her students greatly appreciated.

Dear Tim, Will and all of Marion's whanau, our hearts go out to you at this time. Our memories of your mum are those of an energetic, proud, fun loving, passionate woman with a deep love of her beautiful boys. We journeyed together through the early playgroup and kindy days and it was fun to connect again when you were teenagers, enjoying the new found freedoms of your independence. Whenever I saw Marion walking the tracks I was always greeted with the warmest of smiles and a grin. She was always interested in how we all were. And that was her way - once connected, never forgotten. I always felt we could continue where we left off regardless of time passing. And so we will hold her memory in our hearts - with warmth and affection always.
Kia kaha boys. Love from Viv, Alex and all the Healy family.

Marion was a fellow member of Victoria University of Wellington Tramping Club (VUWTC) in the early 1970s. We were in the same year at uni, and participated in many tramping trips together. She was always lovely to be with, and so much fitter than I was. When Marion and Dave married, I was delighted.
It was very sad news from another VUWTC member yesterday. There will be many of us at the farewell on Thursday afternoon, I am sure.
