Dear John Mander and family, Rachel, John Woodfield and family. It is with both sadness and joy that I heard about your lovely Margret's passing. Sadness because a loved Mother, Grandmother, and great Grandmother has gone, and her passing will leave a big hole in your lives. Joy, because she has been promoted to glory - how wonderful is that? Her years on earth were long and well spent.
I remember her as a good, kind, and generous friend. You always knew where you were with Margret - she would tell it as she saw it, and hold no grudge if there was a difference of opinion. If she knew you needed support, she would be the first one at your door with a batch of home baking, something else yummy, or an offer of help. In recent years I have enjoyed visiting her whenever I was in Dunedin, and reminiscing over old times and photos with her.
One of my favourite memories from way back was coming home from our bach in the Marlborough Sounds, with Margret and Barry in the back of our car, after some days of intensive building work which Barry was carrying out for us. We set a goal to sing every hymn mentioning the sea, boats, or large areas of water, we could collectively think of, during the journey, and see if we could get all the way home to Christchurch before we ran out. I can't remember if we did, but Barry and Wes sure kept us going a long way! Good friends like that are hard to come by.
I know you will treasure the memories of Margret, as I will. She herself was a treasure.
With warm love, Ellen Anderson.
