Sincere condolences to the Gunton family upon the passing of your Malcolm.
Air Cdre Malcolm was OC Flying at Wigram in the early 1960s when my pilots' course was training to fly. He was well respected as a leader, a mentor and a gentleman. Some years later, a nav and I flew him in a Devon to Wellington to air force HQ for a meeting. It was a blowy, murky day. Just before our bad weather approach to Rongotai, Mal came forward and said: "Now Johnston, you're not going to give me a Sunderland arrival, are you?"
We did not and Mal's wry humour lives on.

You sat next to me at a mutual family member's funeral many years ago and truly struck me as such a gentleman, one whom the world rarely sees anymore, it seems. I got to spend one or two moments in your company since then, and those same qualities remained, as you accrued an astonishing amount of years! Thank you for sharing that with me, Mal. I'll take it with me. Go well, Sir.
