Lois WELLS Obituary

On July 27, 2025, peacefully passed away at WesleyCare, in her 90th year. Loved wife of the late Peter Alan, sister and sister-in-law of Margaret and the late Frank Wall, stepmother to the Fowler family, special friend of Jerry Moss, and favoured friend of the Gunstone family. Messages may be addressed to "the Wells family" c/- PO Box 26051, North Avon, Christchurch 8148. A service to celebrate Lois' life will be held in our John Rhind Chapel, entry from London and Whitmore Streets, Richmond, on Thursday, July 31, at 10.00am., interment thereafter in the Memorial Park Cemetery at 3.30pm.

I recall Lois clearly from her many yeas as a key member of SPELD NZ, previously SPELD Canterbury. She was a fierce protgonaist for students who struggled in education because of dyslexia and other learning disabilities which were not being addressed inmost schools in New Zealand. She had a particular gift for working with gifted teenagers who needed extra tuition to achieve to their full potential. She is fondly remembered.

As we drove together to professional meetings and social functions, Lois recalled her early teaching experiences in and near Christchurch. Her love of teaching literacy, maths, and music were complemented by her kindness and her readiness to listen.
