Mr Rhodes was my teacher in Std 4 Main School. A truly inspirational teacher, way ahead of the times. I was also in his school orchestra. Remembering our class camp and many happy times in the classroom when he was playing his guitar and teaching us folk songs amongst others. It truly was such a positive environment. Good to have touched base in the last couple of years with him. Condolences to his family. A great teacher and mentor leaves their imprint on their student's lives. Rest well.

I was sorry to learn of the death of Barrie and extend to you all my deepest sympathy in your bereavement.
Many years ago I loaned Barrie my old 1910 Banjo. His folk group 'the Piccaso Trio'
used this in their recording of the 'Fairlie Flyer' song - can be heard on 'You Tube'.
Barrie's folk music continues on for all of us to enjoy.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Barrie Rhodes. Was one of the most liked teachers at Timaru Main School (now closed). Was great with the special needs kids there and my choir teacher. R.I.P Barrie.
