Kevin HURNDELL Obituary

Ex New Zealand Police #0919

Sunrise 17.01.1947 Sunset 22.11.2025

It is with extreme sadness the family announce the peaceful passing of Kevie, after a short courageous and gallant fight. Kevie was the cherished and dearly loved husband of Helen, whom he fondly called "Helly Lizbith". Adored father and father-in-law of Richard and Tracey, Simon and Donna, and Amy. Treasured Poppa to Henry, Eva, Olivia, Hugh, Sophie and Alexandra, Katie the chihuahua and Honey (dec) the chihuahua. Loved brother and brother-in-law of Tim, David (dec), Mark (dec) and Sue, Susan and Barney, Peter and Penny and uncle to his many nieces and nephews. As Kevin wished, a private family funeral has been held. The family would like to sincerely thank the medical team of Ward 10, Christchurch Public Hospital for their professionalism, compassion and excellent care of Kevin during this very difficult time.

I loved the day he came to work dressed as Dame Edna, he said he got some strange looks from people in cars at the lights. He looked fabulous!

It was one of life´s great pleasures to know Kevin and Helen during their time at The Estate!!
He was probably one of the best walkers on the Estate, walking Honey most days and you knew when that was happening as Honey announced with a fervency that Daddy was out walking with her. He had such a lovely devotion to both Honey and Katie that those two chihuahuas didn´t realise how fortunate they were. Katie on the other hand was as quiet as Honey was noisy..... Now I don´t know about the devotion to Helen because I didn´t ever see Kevin walking her around the block on a lead.... My sincere condolences Helen on your loss and I trust you have many beautiful memories to look back on to get you through the hard days. With much love
