I have spent the last few days talking to Aarin and Rainer about their Grandad. There are many things I could mention, but there aren’t many Grandads who have a mountain in their name. Dad spent many years in Antarctica and New Zealand as part of Operation Deep Freeze, which is where my Dad met my mother. There is a mountain in Antarctica named after him in the Wisconsin Range, called Koopman Peak. You can Google it, the mountain is 2200m (7200ft) tall. So we built our own Koopman Peak on the beach this weekend. Love you, Dad.

Ken you were a kind, generous, dignified man who we all loved. We were each others Sweetheart Darling and our love had no boundaries. We were so lucky to have shared so many happy times and you spoke often that you wished we could have shared our entire life together. We were the love of each others life. Our memories will always be treasured. With great love from your wife Jill and family Leanne & Karl, Carol & Nigel, Juliette and Alirio, and Grandchildren Asta, Jade, Kaylee, Lucas and Hazim.

We did not have Ken in our lives for long but he was an extremely loved and supported member of our family.

His wedding to my mother Jill was one of the most happiest days that they shared together. Ken cried as Jill walked toward him that day and you could see the love in both their faces it was the most magical moment for us as a family.

It was certainly not the last of the happiness they shared together and to say they were a cute couple was an understatement.

My mother Jill and Ken loved each other and this was evident in the way she cared for him and the smile in his eyes when she was in the room clearly showed his love for her.

They shared many memories and lived a full life together right till the end. My
Mum would drive 45 mins just to get Sonny a Carl Jr Burger that he loved! My mum dotted on Ken every day they we’re together and he was never short of clean ironed clothes, his favourite American foods and access to the remote from his favourite lazy boy chair.

My mother and Ken were sadly not together long but they lived a full life travelling around Australia and the world together and visited Nebraska to spend time with his family there and they also loved Hawaii and visited there twice. Travelling was not always easy but my Mum always made it work so they could live a full and active life in retirement.

In his final weeks and days Ken never lost his smile and it was so hard to see my Mum’s heart break in two when she said her goodbyes and she never left his side till the very end.

Ken was a beloved member of our family and we will never forget the joy he bought and we will miss Sonny with a Y so much..

RIP Sonny we love you xxx

When Ken was single and in the Navy and traveling the world he would always write to me and send post cards. As a teenager I loved seeing pictures of all the interesting places he had been and I loved hearing about his adventures. Every now and then he would bring me gifts from foreign lands. One gift was a beautiful large ornate Bible from Spain; I always cherished that Bible. I love you brother. Until we meet again. We send our love and condolences to Scott, Shane, Aarin and Rainer; Sherry and Jackson and Jill and family.
