Kathleen I just came across this- I know it was awhile ago when you passed, but as a pioneer in all queer and lesbian research you touched me. Reading your work -made me reevaluate my schooling as a queer person and realising I wasn't alone- you were a person that I aspired to be- thank you- thank you for being the unique and strong individual you were

As a young Ph.D student I shared an office with Kathleen in 1995. With vastly different backgrounds and belief systems we spent many a happy hour engaged in rich discussion about lots of different things. Looking back I've reflected on my lack of experience of the world and life and how much I thought I knew then. Kathleen challenged my thinking at a time in my life that has had a long term impact on my teaching and personal value system. I've thought about her often over the years and the layer of learning from my time with her that I have taken with me to all my interactions with people, places, and things.

So very sorry that Kathleen's sharp mind and academic integrity is lost to our community. I value the time I had working with her at Canterbury University. She touched many lives in positive ways. Vale Kathleen.

I am deeply sorry to hear this. Kathleen will be remembered by so many of her students for the passion that she incited with her teachings. Among many other things, I will do my best to push boundaries, challenge the norm and seek deeper understandings as she would have encouraged.

Kathleen, you were a wonderfully bright light in the lives of many. I will always treasure the times we spent together. You leave a legacy of courage, commitment, open-heartedness, love and a marvellous joie de vivre. Who else would celebrate their 60th birthday swinging across the creek, head thrown back screaming with laughter, much to the delight of everyone who watched. I will miss you but never forget you.

Sad loss of my deeply respected work colleague Arohanui to whanau and friends of Kathleen. She had the best laugh.

Thankyou, Kathleen, for your pioneering work in the field of lesbian and gay issues in education. I was always strengthened by your NZARE Conference presentations, so brave and so out there. Arohanui to your memory, and to your family at this sad time.
