Karen HAMERS Obituary

Passed away peacefully, surrounded with love, on July 4, 2023, forever 63 years young. Dearly loved wife of Barry, best ever mum to Lydia, Michael and Sarah, and unforgettable Nana to Tyler, Rylan and Charlie. Cherished daughter of the late John and Maree, treasured sister and sister-in-law to Tony, Heather, Colleen, Stewart, Paul and the late Barbara, and much loved niece ("Floss") to Patsy. At Karen's request, there will be no funeral however a private gathering will be held on her birthday in September where she will placed with her mum, dad and sister in a beautiful countryside crematorium near Timaru. The family wish to thank all of Karen's friends who have supported her throughout her life, and her recent cancer journey. They are also grateful to the exceptional team at Nurse Maude Hospice for the care and support given to Karen and family. Please consider a donation in lieu of flowers or gifts. Always remembered and loved. Rest in love Karen / Mum / Nana / Floss. "Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal."

Sisters By Chance
Friends By Choice

The day I was born you became my big sister, the day you died you became my guardian angel.

Memories fade over time but my sisters are not memories, they are part of me.

We will always have each other.

Rest in peace big sister, you've given me all I need.

I only met Karen in March while in hospital. Our time together was brief but we kept in contact afterwards. We discovered that we had a lot in common (including our year of birth). Karen and another patient made my stay full of laughs and lovely conversations. Karen especially made quite an impression and more recently made true one of life's sayings - relationships come for a reason, season, or lifetime. We had a reason to meet (short-term stay in hospital - helped me out in a difficult situation), a season (we were in contact for a season) and a life-time (I will remember Karen and her strength and friendship for my lifetime). Sincere condolences to Karen's family for the loss of such a sincere and lovely lady.
