Cynthia HENNING-HANSEN Obituary

On Thursday, December 11, 2025 at 2330hrs, mother died to cracking flashes of lightning and rolling thunder. This was the end of a long and full mortal life, and we hope she is now reuniting with friends and relations up there in the heavens. In recent years she would sometimes point to the clouds and say, see you there. Guy, Oskar, Felix and I, along with so many friends, relations and aquaintances, will miss her greatly. A private funeral and cremation has been held in Rangiora, and there will be a memorial gathering at 1600hrs/4pm on Thursday, January 15, at the Christchurch Club, Latimer Square. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the SPCA (in memory of her string of much loved animal friends) or Nurse Maude (in thanks for all their diabetes support) would be appreciated. Messages to the Henning-Hansen-Tapley Family, c/- PO Box 35, Rangiora 7440.

Just a note to offer condolences on behalf of the May family in memory of Cynthia's father Percy. He was raised by my great-grandmother through his teens and left for WWI in the Army alongside my great-uncle, Arthur May. I came across her recent obituary and wanted to pay my respects.

My father knew the parents and was a great admirer of mother Mary Morse for her kindness and presence. Also of her sister Janet, whom I knew well through her environmental work. Janet introduced me to Cynthia in Wellington and it was a delight to visit her while I lived and worked there..and we shared tickets for the Arts Festivals and many good conversations.... I wish we had more for I admired her vibrancy and would have loved to see more of her and hear of her life. I am sad to hear of her passing.
