I have very fond memories of John through South Island Rowing. I was fully involved with him in obtaining finance, completing the engineering work and associated approvals, and Project Managing the implementation of the Sewage scheme. I enjoyed working with him and I miss his presence.

I will always be thankful to John for the support he gave to the first NZ selected women's rowing team in 1974, when we were training from the Avon Rowing Club. He gave me a job polishing new cars and taking them for new Warrants of Fitness. John was a tireless, enthusiastic worker for our sport, on so many levels.

Dear Julie
Very sorry to hear of the passing of John.
Jane and I had the privilege of being in the 1976 NZ Colts Rowing Team which trained in Christchurch, of which John was the Manager. In the early days of our relationship he would provide cars for me to deliver from Christchurch to Dunedin where Jane was based. He was such a thoughtful, generous man. Over the years we became firm friends through our shared love of rowing and I always admired his great optimism, enthusiasm and ability to get things done! He was a wonderful servant of the sport and will be greatly missed.
Wishing you and the family all the very best.

Dear John, you were there when I first arrived at Avon Rowing Club and you be-friended me like a wonderful soldier. Have appreciated knowing you for over 60 years and will never forget the great enthusiasm you had for the sport. Never did you fail to come up with answers when the problem was tough. Great life and great friendship over the years.
