John and Sheila welcomed my family with kindness and generosity when we immigrated to NZ from the USA. My youngest remembers the swimming pool. My oldest, the fruitcake. John also repurposed a stonking great transformer so we could run some of the appliances we had brought with us. Will raise a toast on Avalanche Peak. A good man.

Dear John, I will never make French Onion soup again without thinking of you.Same wth a tart lemon slice or Sultana Cake which was a joy to make and watch you enjoy it one small piece at a time!
The many many car trips we took with Sheila and youself out to the Leithfield pub for a toasted sandwhich chips and a beer. Like wise the cafe in Lincoln where you loved the food but protested loudly about how hard the chairs were. Always a comment while on the road about your car sickness which I never got to see as we were always flat out talking!. What a great time we had and such a gentleman you were to spend time with. For that I thank you and meeting you was a true life experience. Much love... Lyne

John died peacefully on November 2, 2025. Gill, Phil, their children, grandchildren and Westies pay tribute to the legacy left by a great man who was independent, opinionated and always had a charming, witty personality. As a beloved and caring daughter, Gill feels incredibly privileged to have shared the best of her father from being born with his blue eyes, to being with him for his final chats about his love of fruit cake and 'adopted' daughter Lyne. Thinking of you tramping new tracks, Dad.
