What a lovely man John was. It was nice to encounter him at the First Church, Dunedin where I could thank him (and his wife) for hosting me when I visited Ashburton in my work with the National Heart Foundation in the 1980's.

The passing of such a wonderful man as John Sinclair is sad for us all. My deepest condolences to the Sinclair family. John had a great deal of positive influence on me in my youth through is thoughtful words, quiet humour and strong support. His officiating at Sutherland family occasions such as weddings and funerals was always done with warmth and great sincerity. We will all miss his soft Scottish brogue.

Allan and I are so very sad to hear of John's death. We were among the Young Adult Group in Clinton who met each Wednesday evening at the manse where we enjoyed growing friendships, thought provoking teaching, animated debate and warm hospitality. We are so glad that we were recently able to visit John in Ross Home when we were in Dunedin enjoying a lively and engaging discussion with him even while we knew that he was very unwell. We grieve for you Dorothy, and all John's cherished family and offer our sad condolences.

On behalf of the members of the Rotary Club of South Dunedin, I extend our deepest sympathies to the Sinclair family. John was a well loved member of our club. John´s gift to us was his generosity of spirit which warmed us and his wisdom which informed us. He had a comforting presence and a positivity that reached out to the members. And of course he loved a yarn, a laugh and carried a wee twinkle in his eye. He will be missed. May he rest in peace.
