John Joseph Thomas
(Jack): QSM
Jack was born in Greymouth October 3, 1931. Beloved husband of Sylvia (died 2003) and loved and loving father of Adrienne (died 1995). A true son of the West Coast, Jack was a miner, a Merchant seaman, mechanic, a member of the Knot Tyers Guild, the Upper Hutt Rifle Club and has assisted with the ongoing restoration of the Hikitia. In 2006 Jack received a QSM for 50 years as a volunteer with the NZ Fire Service, serving with the Wainui, Upper Hutt and Silverstream brigades. Jack is survived by his elder daughter Jillian her husband Richard and four grandchildren, Jessamy, Merryn, Euan and Elodie. Special thanks to all the care staff at Elderslea who treated Jack with respect and kindness. In lieu of flowers donations to Te Omanga Hospice would be appreciated. A service will be held for Jack at the Heretaunga Christian Centre, Lane St, Upper Hutt, on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 2.00pm.
