I was only recently thinking about my old friend in New Zealand, to John, sorry I missed you and sad to find you gone so young. To Maria and family my deepest condolences, but rest assured John will be keeping the saints, angels and God himself amused by his joyful wit and endless good humour.

Yours in Christ the Lord Gerry Murphy.

The Ultimate Joke from John
Some of you may be aware that John and I had a nickname that we used for each other which was `HB". Now what did `HB´ stand for? It was for `Honeybunch....of Stinkweed!´ It was our joke together!

John was such a kind, considerate and faithful friend. Nothing was ever a problem and he was always so willing to help. John was the true hands and feet of Jesus, a brother a father a grandfather and a friend to everyone. John had the biggest heart to serve that I have ever met. Thank you John for touching my life and my children's like you did. You don't know how much you meant to us and so many others. The world has lost a true gem. Rest in peace my brother. Until we meet again. Janette Branson

I had so many wonderful memories of John. He was always there for me and my mother Apa. I know how much he meant to her as she would often say thank God for John... what would we do without him! He helped and support us so much. I hope you know how much you meant to so many people. You brought so much light into the world. You will be greatly missed. Rest in peace.

Just wanted to say that John was a great man, fully a legend in his own mind, and a great legend as a human being. He was an example of how we are to treat our neighbour, our brothers and sisters I pray that you have a deep peace in the middle of this storm, that you have answers from God in the middle of chaos, and you have laughter in the middle of your pain. So much love to you all, love Sonya King. (Why was 6 scared of 7? Because 7 8 9)

Memory of John from Pip Grant
I remember just before lockdown started the first time. I had gone to the supermarket in Brighton. It was pretty full and I squeezed past people down the isles and rounded the next isle and who should I bump into but John. After a quick hello John launched into a deep conversation "now tell me he says who wears the pants in your family? I said my John of course. I see says your John. Now tell me this.... So here we are chatting in a full supermarket with people going around us talking about issues in life. Hey I was only getting butter and tea bags but your John had all the time in the world. He was a deep thinker and that sparkle and intensity made John who he is. I guess he was in the moment man. He was caring and kind.
Another time he advised us on a new tv. Wow he went into it fully and so went to Harvey Norman to get one. After speaking with your John we got the best colour definition tv. Everyone comments that our picture is really clear and it is. Your John also scaled the ladder on the roof playing with our Ariel. I said to my John gee hope he doesn´t fall off but no he was back in a flash with his findings. The thing about your John he knew a heck of a lot of stuff about everything. That is pretty amazing in my eyes. Passionate about sorting out problems. Good on him. Behind every good man is a good woman. He will surely be missed. know you had a good husband Maria and father of your children. Your family spoke so well at the service. Keep strong and know you have wonderful memories of John. Pip
