John KIDD Obituary

KIDD, John William:
John left us on October 1, 2021. He was an extraordinary man, a wonderful friend, compassionate and spirited, a wordsmith, and a great lover of sport and music. He was a thwarted musician but a wonderful listener. John loved and was deeply loved by, and will be missed by, his wife Sarah, and children Debbie, Tony, Joanna, and Jonathan. He loved and was proud of his grandchildren Laura, Henry, Bruce, Isabella, and Sam. An original West Coaster, and one of four brothers, he made a memorable impression not only on his nieces and nephews (who were very important to him) but also to those who came into his life over the years. Always having a strong community interest, he was also a car fan (Lancia and Peugeot), with a family-imbued love of historical aviation (particularly the Spitfire and the Tiger Moth), with an involvement in cricket, and a fullback's view on how to continuously improve the All Blacks back-line. Messages are welcome via email [email protected]. A livestreaming link for those unable to attend will also be available via contacting this email address prior to the day. Otherwise, please send messages to The Kidd Family, c/- Lamb & Hayward, PO Box 39001, Christchurch 8545. The Funeral Service to celebrate John's life, and to share stories, will be held at our Westpark Chapel, 467 Wairakei Road, Burnside, Tomorrow (Friday), at 10.00am.

Sorry to hear of John's Passing. It has been a long time since we met in person, but I remember him as a kind, caring and insightful man. Condolences Sarah and to others in the family

Working in Palmerston North Social Welfare office with both Sarah and John was one of the iconic times in my professional and personal life. A truly professional and empathic man with a marvellous sense of humour. A man who was so good to be with.Ng mihi aroha ki a koutou.

Thank you very much for everything John, you were more like a brother than a uncle . I enjoyed our discussions on politics and religions over the years . You would've made a good Pope but you decided your higher calling was to work with children at risk .Don't forget to pay the boatman 2 coins

John you were a wonderful cousin. Your kind words and patience made a big impression on me as a young child. My mother Erin found you such a big support when she had many young babies at home and little adult conversation on the bigger world outside. You brought laughter and big ideas to a home based life. Much love to all who loved you and miss you now.

John I will always be so grateful that you have been in my life from such a young age. You were so kind, welcoming and wise to me whenever our lives crossed paths including Wellington, Palmerston North, Christchurch and London, I will never forget you taking us fishing when I was about 7 with little roll up rods in Paremata. You made it so much fun. Your s and Sarah's kindness to invite us all to your wedding when I was younger than 7 will stay with me my whole life. xx
