John HUGHSON Obituary

Passed away on October 11, 2025, age 98, with loving family at his side. Dearly loved husband of Yvette (deceased). Beloved brother of Ruvae Britten and Peter (deceased). Much loved father and father-in-law of Julie and Malcolm, Richard (deceased) and Cathy, Ian and Annette, Gay and Ross, Fiona and Peter. Cherished Grandie of 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. A lifelong friend of Reid Cowan. Fraser was a proud West Coaster, exceptionally creative, a fixer and maker of everything. Heartfelt thanks to all who visited or assisted in Fraser's care. Your compassion, love, and friendship was very appreciated by Fraser and his extended family. According to our Dad, "You were all good people." In keeping with Fraser's wishes, a private cremation has been held. Sad to hear the passing of Fraser it was only week before his 98 birthday that I last visited him.
I worked with Fraser in the Westland Catchment Board where we were both involved in River Engineering. We keep in touch over the years and Fraser always enjoyed a yarn on the phone.
A very talented man in his workshop. One of Fraser's favourite sayings that I recall was " You have got to keep your powder dry man". A great bloke and I will miss his phone calls.
