John HOTOP Obituary

HOTOP, John:
Passed away peacefully at home on August 30, 2015, aged 85 years. Dearly loved husband of Dorothy. Loved father of Kim and Nic, the late Surrey, and Jonty and Mel. Loved granddad of Fritha, Harrison, Sami, Charlotte, and Winta-Rose. Loved brother of Jill and the late David, Peter and Nelda, Devon and Brian. A service for John will be held at Seddon Park Funeral Home Chapel, Cnr Seddon Road and Somerset Street, Hamilton, on Friday, September 4, at 1.30pm followed by private cremation. In lieu of flowers donations preferred to Hospice Waikato, PO Box 325, Hamilton 3240 or these may be left at the service. All communications to the Hotop family, c/- PO Box 5523, Frankton, Hamilton, 3242.

John a stunning All Black 1st5 was amongst other things a famous Waitakian and loved by all of the Old Boys who were lucky enough to meet him
I met john through his lovely sister
Devon and he was charming, accommodating and interesting to guys of all ages.I hadn't seen John for about 30 years but the memories linger on.

My late father, George Rennie, managed a team that John was in and I grew up hearing as a person as well as a player great stories about him. By chance I met John at a Lincoln alumni event in Hamilton some years back. To my surprise and my fathers absolute delight, John subsequently visited him in Christchurch - that was such a nice thing for John to do

Dear Dorothy and family.

The Varsity Club is a brotherhood for life and John was a fine player for Varsity A in the early 1950s and his support of the Club and rugby milestones at Massey University is well noted.
