Dear Nan and your family
Peter and I were shocked and very saddened to read of John's death in the Press and send you all our deepest sympathy and condolences. It was so good to have known you when you lived next door to Jean and Will in your gorgeous home and garden. You were both always so warm and friendly and we felt very at ease in your company. However, there are 2 occasions we particularly remember. The first joining you and your guests when we all saw in the New Year at the turn of the Millennium. We will never forget that night. The other occasion was on the sudden death of William. When we arrived to be with Jean early that morning, John was already there showing wonderful kindness and sympathy. How Jean loved having you as dear neighbours.
John was a real gentleman and a stalwart of our society. What a great man with a life so well lived.
Our love and sympathy,
Peter and Mary Mills

A wonderful man I first met when he was a young solicitor. I was both delighted and honoured to work with the Judge when he had his resident Chambers in the High Court at Christchurch. His Honour´ s working relationship with the Registry staff was always pleasant and easy. My sympathy and condolences to His Honour´s family . Peter Fantham
