John BISHOP Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John Ross Bishop (J.R), who left us peacefully, on January 8, 2025, aged 87 at his home in Hervey Bay, Queensland, formerly of Oamaru and Queenstown. Much loved and cherished husband of Pam and ex-husband of Barbara. Loved and respected Dad and father-in-law of Murray, Tony and Deborah, Joanne and Dave Cleverley, Ross and Moira and Johnny and Sunisa. Grandad to Shane, Zyanya, John, Max, Fran and Lucy, and Great-Grandad Tyler and Isobella, Van and Tyson, Amaia and Kiani and baby Ethan. Brother and brother-in-law of Geoff and Leone, Barbara Wadsworth (dec), Julie and Reg (dec) Direen and Peter (dec). As per JR's request there will be a private family service in Hervey Bay, Queensland, and a memorial service to honour JR will be held in NZ at a date and location yet to be confirmed. Another legend departs. Nov 2024, was the passing of Peter Rae, a very close friend to JR. Not many left of the original crowd. Met JR, through Jack Rowe at the Maniototo Hotel, which was then owned by Des and Joy Rabbit. Scored a t-shirt that day, thanks to JR, that read hop into the Maniototo Hotel. Had some good times at Otemetata, as well. Rest well..

A photo from long ago when John had a party for his 23 year old son Murray aka Muzz. Circa February 1981. So though memory fails, I did have the pleasure of meeting JR Bishop . Rest in peace kind Sir.

Sorry to hear of JRs passing.. I Worked for John as a first year apprentice Signwriter in Oamaru... Continued doing all signage for him untill 1982...Bloody good bloke ... and to work for...Thinking of his family at this time ,with deepest sympathy.. Graham Gardiner.. Perth
