Our friendship with Joan and John was special, a wonderful teacher fo Greg and Kate´s friendship with Terry, then when the move to Brian´s home town of Waimate came the introduction to the sheep, meat and two veg! The discovery of holistic and alternative health sources was serious and generously shared. We loved you Joan Rest in peace now.

The membership of the Canterbury Genealogy Society (formerly known as New Zealand Society of Genealogists - Canterbury Branch), (Family History) wish to express sincere sympathy and condolences on the loss of Joan, to all her family and friends. Joan was a lovely lady and a much valued genealogist. Joan has recently written a story of her mother to be included in a collection of family stories written by our members.

Dear Joan, how blessed were we who were colleagues teaching at St Benedict's School, Khandallah, Wellington during the 1980's and 90's, in the professional events and the friendships made through those years and beyond ! We appreciated your friendship, your faith, your commitment, your support, your love for all people especially your warm relationship with your students, your sense of humour, and your insights which your generously shared. I have been fortunate in your on-going friendship through the years since we finished teaching. A special memory was a visit to the wonderful Margaret Mahy Playground in Christchurch, where our "child hearts" enjoyed seeing children doing what our aging bodies could no longer experience ! May you rest in eternal peace Joan and may your amazing family find comfort in the wonderful memories you and John created with them.
