Dearest Jan,

I am SO very sorry to hear that you have passed on to the next life, though I'm confident we'll eventually meet again. I'll always remember working as your replacement teacher back in the 1970s in Invercargill -- how you commanded the attention of male high school students with "YOU! Come here! And BRING your mouth with you!".

And decades later, after you had lived in Haifa at the Baha'i World Centre and I had moved to Canada, it was an absolute joy for me to sit outside that cafe in Lyttelton and share our memories.

I miss your inimitable sense of humour. I really do.

Ben, if you are reading this, know that I remember you as a wee boy and your friendship with my son Robin. Robin is 50 years old now, lives in Canada, has a son of his own. Robin remembers you well.

Crap Jan. I miss you.

I am shocked and deeply saddened by the news of Jan's death. We had a great trip in Turkey together and subsequently met up in both NZ and Melbourne. I will miss her.

We have lovely memories of dear Jan, and of experiencing her warm hospitality and cheerful nature. She was a dear friend. Warmest condolences to Ben and all the family. With prayers for blessings to be showered upon Jan and those she has left behind, from Suzanne and Kevin Mahon
