Jean CUMMING Obituary

Passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at Summerset on Cavendish; aged 86 years. Dearly loved wife of William (deceased), much loved mother and mother-in-law of Fiona and Mike, Nick and Olivia, and Piers, loved grandma of William, Hugo and Charlotte. Beloved sister and sister-in-law of Barry and Pauline, David and Joan, Rick and Anne, Lexie, Martyn, Barrie, Anne-Marie, Colin (deceased) and Leslie, and John (deceased). The family wish to acknowledge the tender care extended to Jean by the staff of Summerset on Cavendish. Messages to the Cumming Family, c/- PO Box 111-01, Christchurch 8443. Garden flowers only. In lieu of flowers donations to https://www.braintree.org.nz/ would be appreciated. A Celebration of Jean's life will be held in St Mary's Anglican Church, 40 Martindales Road, Heathcote Valley, on Saturday, November 29, at 2.00pm.

I have fond memories of working with Jean many years ago at Kreglinger Woolbuyers when she first arrived in NZ. We caught up again when I took Russian born singer Yulia, who at the time was just 16, for vocal lessons. Jean, being the ultimate professional, helped Yulia immensely. RIP Jean.

Jean was a beautiful teacher and an exceptional choral conductor. She inspired a love for singing and music that is with me to this day. If there were three words to describe Jean, for me they would be: poise, grace and precision. Rest in heavenly peace Jean.
