Miss Campbell was my third form English teacher and instilled in me a love of English literature and of the power of English teachers. Later I heard that as the principal she brought things to the school that truely warmed the heart. Amongst other things she strived to make the school a beautiful environment for the students with artworks, carpets and peacocks (less successful but a lovely thought). She made me proud to be a pupil at WEGC.

My condolences to Janice´s family. I was very privileged to be taught by her during my time at WEGC 1967-1971. What a fabulous woman. It´s not until later years that I really appreciated her gift to us and how lucky we were to have her as a teacher, mentor and role- model. Beautiful and smart, inside and out. She will be missed.

As I read the heartfelt messages of so many young people who have fond memories of Janice, especially in her years in education, I understand even more the wonderful gifts and talents she shared with so many. I have known her for about 8-10 years and treasure the SHC Parish and coffee meetings when with Colin, we met in the local café. My sympathy to Colin and to the families of Colin and Janice. May you rest in peace Janice.

I am sorry to hear of Janice's passing. She was a good friend to my sister-in-law Sue, and spoke at Sue's funeral. I value her contribution to education and her service to the GSA. Condolences to her family.

We are some members of a cohort that attended Wellington East Girls College from 1963 - 1967.

Long before Janice was Principal at Wellington East, she taught English, history and social studies from 1963. She also had a great passion for drama studies and ran the staff side of school house plays and the annual play.

Even if she hadn't taught us, we'd likely have had something to do with her through drama activities. She was quietly charismatic and we knew she was on the side of the schoolgirls. Janice also knew how to motivate us to reach our potential. She brought out the best in us.

The second half of the 60s encouraged us to rebel against lots of silly rules and she was an ally. She was much younger than most of the staff and very stylish. She treated us like young adults and we respected her for this - no-one pranked Janice.

Janice was an empowering and inspiring teacher, which is just about the best thing you can be for young people. We really were free to express our ideas and we remember her warmth, intelligence and wisdom with great affection.

Our deepest sympathy to her family for their loss.

Miss Campbell was a loving and nurturing Principle..She always took me under her wing and gave me the best advise that at the time as I was a Teenager had no comprehension of the value of my being young and free to do whatever I like. Her words later deepened my way of thinking and how this can effect my Leadership and believing whats right from wrong. She always cared so much and said that I will one day stand proud in being a Wahine Mori in my future life learning about knowledge and who I am as Mori. She always had the best intention even if it was a long conversation that needed to be said. So when I was a Year 13 I stood proudly as a Mori prefect at Wellington East Girls College in 2007 to the best of my ability and leading all wahine especially Mori in the right pathway they choose. I hope that she had a magical and fulfilling life with her whnau, friends and Mokopuna. Rere ana t Wairua ki te poho o Hine nui te p. An inspiration to all. I also wish the whnau of Miss Campbell my deepest condolences as I know that when a Matriarch of the Family passes can be hard. We hope that your memories like mine live on forever. RIP Miss Campbell.

I am a former pupil of Wellington East Girl’s College from 1981-1986. Janice Campbell was a pupil of WEGC herself, became a teacher there and then the Principal. She was a legendary institution back then and although she could be formidable, she was also very gracious, kind, generous and caring. I always felt empowered by her and she instilled belief and confidence in us to achieve anything we put our mind to.

Later on, I had the honour of working with her in education as a member The Teacher’s Refresher Course Committee (TRCC) from 2010 of which she was patron. I always held her in high esteem.

Thank you, for being a very patient Principal. You were amazing. The only time we ever spoke in person was when I was in trouble or about to be suspended. You were patient, calm and never said a cross word or showed anger. Thank you!

I remember Mrs Campbell as being a soft hearted and graciously spoken Principal who was very caring and selfless. Always checking in on us students if we were okay whenever she sees us in the corridor's. When I think of her, I will always remember our School song. Rest in love Mrs Campbell, thank you for empowering us all to do better and become the strong and fearless women that we are today.

Our condolences to the precious Campbell family. We pray our God will be with you every step of the way. May He be of comfort to you all during this difficult time. May He give you strength, peace and hope in the shelter of the Almighty King. Rest in Love Mrs Campbell.

Dear Colin and family, it was with great sadness that I read Janice's obituary today. She was a stalwart of Education as Principal of Wellington East and in many other roles she held , including in retirement her great contribution to GSF.
I remember her with great fondness as an esteemed colleague and fellow Wellington Principal. Thoughts and prayers with you all at this time.
