On April 19, 2026, at Ngaio Marsh, with his loving daughters by his side; aged 84 years. Dearly loved husband of the late Carole, adored father and father-in-law of Debbie and Kerry, the late Tania, and Jo and Jason. Treasured Grandad of Christopher and Danél and great-grandad of Austin. Special thanks to all the amazing team at Ngaio Marsh for all their love, care and support. Messages to the Pateman family co/ PO Box 111-01, Christchurch 8443. The Funeral Service for Jim will be held in Academy Funeral Services Chapel, 65 Main South Road, Upper Riccarton, on Saturday, May 2, at 11.00am.

Jim was a great fishing buddy with my dad Morrie many moons ago. The old photos we have show what seems a golden era of salmon fishing. So many caught. They had many hours and many beers together that group. How lucky they were. Sorry for your loss.

Uncle Jim,I'm glad we got to spend some time with you last year, although we couldn't have known it would be the last time. Mum would always tell us amazing stories of your hunting/fishing exploits and it made us laugh each time you stood next to my brother Carl because the family resemblancs was remarkable.
