My memories of Jim are in his role as adviser on mathematics to primary schools. I too was an adviser, an adviser to rural schools. Jim was the first person I knew to have a computer. It was a ZX81 which had 1kb of memory that could be increased to 2kb by plugging in a memory pack. Wow! Programmes were stored on a cassette tape. Little did Jim or I know then what would happen in the development of the personal computer and the impact they would have
on teaching and learning. On another level, I never managed to beat Jim at snooker or billiards. He was just too good for me.
All good memories!
