I knew of Jim only through listening to Newstalk ZB at nighttime when I couldn´t sleep. It was always interesting listening to Jim´s wise words and generous knowledge. What a wonderful gentleman, and one so proud to share his respected career stories as a veterinary pathologist. Thank you Jim for all your calls in to the radio show. You will be missed dearly by me and by many others.
Rest peacefully now.

To an admirable brother and a beloved friend. We will miss you Jim.
Much loved and respected by Helen and Ali and the late Don, Jean and Dave.
Remembered fondly by all your sister and brother in-laws, nieces and nephews. You lived your life to the full Jim and loved the outdoors. Enjoyed mountaineering, tramping, skiing, kayaking and cycling for the freedom and adventure it gave you. Despite health challengers in latter years you found enthusiasm for new projects that gave you joy and a sense of purpose. You loved to share your knowledge and experiences and being part of the ZB family became your lifeline.
Always so thankful for everything anyone did for him, I would like to thank all those who put comments on Jim's obituary, Thankyou for caring. Ali

I too was a ZB follower of Jim, and loved his stories he would tell us of tramping trips and other antics he'd get up to. His advice was always sound, carefully considered, and could always be trusted. Such a genuine guy, with a wonderful sense of humour.
Go well, Jim.

All the ZB talk back listeners will miss Jim the veterinary pathologist - I´m in my early 50s and on many a night when I had insomnia from this stage of life I would tune in and always hope to hear a story from Jim in the wee hours. Caller after caller would then reference the interesting insights Jim had offered. We were all missing him and were wondering where he was, not realising he was journeying to his next adventure. Go well Jim. Condolences to your loved ones

I have fond memories of Jim at the Lincoln Animal Health Lab. We would sit at the double-header microscope in his office looking at histology slides. He would happily spend time explaining to me what we were looking at. I found it so interesting. He was such a knowledgable and lovely man.

New Zealand Veterinary Science students had to study in Australia before the 1960s. Jim's enthusiasm in the University of Queensland Bushwalking Club for the mountains of the South Island was contagious and played a part in my eventual move to NZ. I enjoyed many trips with Jim during the late 50s/early 60s.
My sincere condolences.

We met Jim Hutton in the early 1960s during our Veterinary Science studies. Jim also had similar interests in tramping, climbing and, later, in pathology and conservation. We kept contact over the years and came to admire Jim's critical thinking and gentle nature. Our journeys have been enriched by having known him,
