Joan and family - deepest sympathies to you and alll the family on Jim's passing. I first met jim in 1975 while working on the Taumarunui Gazette in Manuante Street. I also enjoyed our trip to China together in the late 1980's very much. Our families were linked together in many ways going back to the days of my Uncle Gerald in Taranaki. Gabrielle, Rebecca and David join me in this heartfelt condolence note to you all.

On behalf of former colleagues of the World Agricultural Forum. I pass on sincere condolences to Jim´s wife Joan and the Bolger family. James Brendan Bolger ,"Jim", was an enthusiastic and dedicated Chairman of our International Advisory Board over many years and we all remember him as someone who bought wisdom, sincerity and experience to our overall mission. As most recent Chairman of the parent World Agricultural Forum Inc. and a fellow New Zealander, I can say that at Board Meetings we all much appreciated his common-sense inputs and guidance. As one of our fellow Board members from Germany said "he was a fine man". I can personally vouch that he was a serious and valuable asset in meetings with world leaders. Founder and Emeritus Chairman, Dr. Leonard Guarraia said "Jim joined the Forum as International Advisory Board Chairman in 2002 and from the beginning placed his own wise stamp and counsel on our affairs". We all recognise that at the international level, Jim Bolger was an enormous contributor to New Zealand´s place and recognition in the world, not only in the political sphere.

On a personal and lighter level, I valued Jim and Joan as true friends. We had many interesting times, hard slogging and on occasion fun together.

We all mourn his passing.

Dr Kenneth M. Baker, Former Chairman, World Agricultural Forum.

Please accept our condolonces to Joan and family. As members of Our Lady of Kapiti parish we had many chats with Jim and Joan. They were always very friendly and it was always interesting to get Jim's opinion on local, national and international issues. We appreciated being invited to their beautiful home and are grateful for the donation they made to our charity for underpriveleged children in Kenya. While at their home we also enjoyed sharing about life in Te Kuiti, where Margaret and her family lived for 13 years at the same time as Jim and Joan. We enjoyed reminiscing with them. 'Well done, good and faithful servant.'

To Joan and the family, on behalf of the NZ-US Council, our heartfelt condolences on the loss of Jim. We are grateful for his service to the NZUS Council during his ten years as Chair and before that as NZ Ambassador to the USA. We acknowledge the important contribution he made to the bilateral relationship with the United States, and remember the vision, wisdom and warmth he brought to the Council. On a personal level, I recall his kind encouragement to me when I was nervous junior staffer in his office in 1991. When he visited the USA as Prime Minister in 1995, I recall how much he enjoyed his visit to a Texas cattle ranch, a welcome change of scene after the high level government meetings in Washington DC. It was wonderful to hear all the reflections on Jim´s life from his family, colleagues and well-wishers during the funeral service just now. You all did him proud. I'm thinking of you all.

My condolences to Joan and all the Bolger family on the passing of Jim. I first met Jim after I arrived in New Zealand from Ireland in 1989 and he was very happy to talk about his strong Irish connections from County Wexford. He was a guest on my Irish radio show 'Ireland Calling' on St. Patrick's Day for a number of years and it was always a pleasure to meet him. We had some good times when we met over the years.
May Jim Rest in Eternal Peace.

My condolences to Mrs Bolger and the family.

I had privilege and honour of working in the Department of Prime Minister & Cabinet for him as a private sector secondee from 91-94.
He was one of the smartest people I have worked with in all my years, but this was not recognised as it should have been.... he could recall key points in briefing notes weeks after they had been sent up to the 9th floor of the Beehive....
He had excellent people management skills (I guess it came with having kids).
Being of Irish decent many of the countries problems were solved in the wee hours of the morning over a glass or few of scotch... I always kept a spare shirt in my office knowing there no point driving home for an hours sleep.... also knowing he would be back in the office chirpy as by 7.30ish...
Not too many people new the country was being run by two proud King Country supporters
RIP I know New Zealand will give you the farewell you deserve.

I had the pleasure and honor of getting to know Ambassador Bolger, when he was posted to DC, and I handled his transits and his wait time at the Airport. He and his wife honored me with invitations to receptions at the Embassy, including to a very intimate "farewell" reception. Getting to know Ambassador Bolger - his sense of humor, his love of music - was a wonderful experience; Sending my condolences and prayers to the Bolger family.
