Sincere sadness for your loss .. I've known Ian, fleetingly, since 1969 when I met my new flatmate, Joan, Ian's sister. Ian met our other flatmate, Claire that year and later married her. I have enjoyed occasional contact with the family over the years, but I feel I know you a little because of my friendship with Joan. Ian and Joan emailed each other every week .. she will miss him massively. Love to you all as you reshape your lives without Ian around.

So sorry to hear of Ian´s passing. Claire was a good friend of mine and I will miss the connection. Claire and Ian´s wedding was the last event I attended before leaving NZ.

I am going to miss Ian. Oddly, I never met him face to face. He was an integral part of our discussion group on Goodreads. Always full of intelligent insights and honest opinions. A great gadfly of which I could never be sure when he was being one or he actually meant his point. Always kept me on my toes and had zero problem being the not popular onion during discussion. Talked about his novels and always referred to them during discussion to show he was thinking on any given issue we were discussing. Ian is ogng to be badly missed and out group will be poorer with his opinions and thoughts.
My condolences to his family and friends.
