Have fond memories of 1st meeting you in Cairo when I was serving in the MFO 1993/94. I can still recall how you made us feel so welcomed when we travelled in from North Camp for the rugby down in Maadi . Rest in peace Latts.

A true mate at OCS Portsea, and my groom's man for my first marriage in NZ. I last saw Latts when we attended the Grade III Staff & Tactics course in 1987 in Waiouru, where his friendship and support helped me following my marriage break-up just prior to the course. We lost touch when I left the Army in 1990 until he phoned me out of the blue in 2020, after which we would chat from time to time about our past and present lives.
I'm so glad that I had those last few chances to talk and fill in some of the 30-year gap. As ever, Latts was the good-humoured top-bloke I had always found him to be; selfless and with only kind words for anyone we recalled in our conversations.
His loss has hit hard despite the years apart, I think because somehow I felt and knew the World was a better place so long as somewhere out there was Latts being his unique and wonderful self. He enriched my life, as I know he did many others.
My sincere condolences to Ian's family, friends, and comrades in arms. Farewell, and rest easy, Latts, you will always live on in the hearts of the many who were privileged to know you.

I am saddened to hear the news of Major Lattimore“s sudden death. A dedicated servant for NZ and a character! My deep gratitude for the time he gave to the young people of NZ through his leadership of the LSV programme.
I have been fortunate to have meet some of these young people years on and they have commented LSV as life changing.
The legacy of his work at LSV and elsewhere lives on.
My thoughts to his family and friends.
Kind Regards John Henderson (Former Regional Commissioner MSD Canterbury)

Very sad to hear of Ian's passing. I lived next door to Ian at Oakley Crescent and we were both home brewers. We had some pretty big nights drinking our home brew, and I would always wake up with a headache the next day while Latts would jump out of bed, iron his uniform and happily get on with his day. Ian and I went to Japan together to buy cars and had a great time over there. Most people will not pack into their lives as much adventure and experiences as Ian. You will be missed.
