Herman Turtzer Obituary

Herman J. Turtzer, 84, of Monongahela (Carroll Township), died Sunday, April 13, 2003 in Mon Valley Hospital. Born Nov. 13, 1918, in Charleroi, he was a son of the late John D. and Anna Bakala Turtzer. He was retired as a polisher for Corning Glass Co. in Charleroi. Mr. Turtzer served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 36th Division Message Center for the 141st Infantry Division in Germany. He was a member of the former St. Jerome's Catholic Church in Charleroi. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Julia Luckasevic Turtzer, whom he married Dec. 30, 1948; one daughter and son-in-law, Karen L. (employee of Dierkens Pharmacy) and David Sala of Monongahela; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard L. and Terri Turtzer of Connellsville; two brothers, William Turtzer of Whittier, Calif., and Jack Turtzer of Rostraver Township; one sister, Jane Turtzer, also of Whittier, Calif.; three grandchildren, Melissa A. Massare of Monongahela, Susan Lowry of Scottdale, and Ron Spoljarick of Connellsville; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were two sisters, Leona Perry and Bertha Turtzer. Friends will be received in the MARSHALL MARRA FUNERAL HOME, 216 Chess St., Monongahela, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, April 16, in St. Anthony Catholic Church at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Joseph Feltz as celebrant. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Carroll Township.
