Heather expertly steered us through the final obstacle to becoming lawyers with practical advice, humour and such kindness.

She managed to connect with and get the best out of everyone in our class, over such a short period of time.

My thoughts are with Tim and family, friends and colleagues, as you remember Heather today and fill the room with shared stories and much love.

I knew Heather as my profs tutor back in the 2000s and what an inspiration she was. Her calm and positive nature put us fresh faced lawyers-to-be all at ease.
My condolences to you Tim and your family.

I knew Heather as a loving and loyal friend during my younger years. We used to attend kindergarten together and were close through our school years. I have many wonderful memories of our times together, including caravan trips with Heather, Enid, John, Susan and Sally.

My deepest condolences to Tim, Helena, her extended family, and friends.

I caught up with Heather at the and of last year for a coffee and we spent a couple of hours reminiscing and bonding over our love of family. What a positive, fun and courageous woman!

As I live in Sydney, it is unfortunately, not possible to attend her memorial, but my thoughts are with you all and I treasure the memories we shared.

Best regards
Kirsty McNay & family xxx

Heather has been a part of my life at varying times - as a 3 year old she went to Kindergarten with Kirsty; as a 7 year old she had a sleepover, but Enid had to come and get her; and recently I reconnected with her as an adult at John´s memorial service. What a wonderful young woman she was. I´m sorry I can´t be at the service as I´ll be in Canada. Iris Clanachan

Dear Heather´s whanau, I am so terribly sad to hear of Heather´s passing. I knew of her illness but I am still in shock. She was so warm, kind, and vibrant!
We met at the Ombudsman´s Office in 2015 and instantly connected, and after we left still kept in touch at a distance.
My heart goes out to you and I am just so sorry.

Heather was an inspirational Legal Professional Studies Instructor in the early 2000s. Heather was the first real practicing lawyer who many of us met straight out of law school. She impacted all of us in the most positive way from day one of the "Profs" course. Many who studied in Christchurch didn't yet have jobs. Where confidence was lacking, Heather showed us all that we could be lawyers and good ones too. She instilled this in us with her kind and caring method of teaching. 20- 25 years later, there are lawyers all over the world who are where they are now and better from having been taught by Heather.

The Trollope & Co team are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Heather. She was not only a cherished friend but also a wonderful colleague and an exceptional lawyer. Heather´s cheerful and bright spirit always brought joy to those around her, and her absence will be profoundly felt by everyone here and to those who had the privilege of knowing her.

To Heather Whanau

I want you to know Heather was a real friend to schools while we navigated some complex issues. She was reassuring, informative and made things completing clear . I personally have valued the work and the support she has provided to me and my kura . In my role supporting other principals I often passed them onto Heather with the same positive feedback as to how she had helped.

My thoughts are with you all at this sad time.
