My boss on g.m.v. Aramoana the Cook Strait ferry.
Graeme McHerron was a true coaster.
He knew everybody from the Coast.
Men, women, children.
Old or young.
In my time with him, he could approach one or two of any of a huge number of passengers and say "I'm sure I know you; aren't you from .... name the town or place .... or you must be related to so and so or do you know".
He always got a positive reply and a long conversation.
Always left me with the impression that Graeme knew everybody on the coast, what they did and who they were related to !!
Everybody !
This is an old time characteristic you will no longer encounter anywhere in New Zealand.
Always a twinkle in his eye and a friendly thing to say.
Very glad you were in my life.
RIP Graeme.
