Because my parents were good friends of your parents, I followed all your great races against Snell and great Aussies. I saw your photos in the paper, but never met you until you attended St Silas church a couple of times. I asked, " By the way Gerry I´ve never asked your surname." Gerry you told me "Hack!". I said "Not Percy Hack´s son?" From then we clicked and had some laughs. Two of my uncles rode that long distance from Timaru to ChCh, but your Dad won that about three times.

I remember Gerry from Mair Astley days, so sad to hear and my condolences to his family.

I remember Gerald on Saturday afternoons competing at Rugby park athletic meetings during the summer, i think he was a member of Technical Athletic Club and trained by the Valdy Bredis !
