George SWEET Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear, extraordinary husband, father, and grandad, on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, aged 92, surrounded by his family. Loved son of the late Rudy and Florence Sweet (Cvitanovic). Most devoted husband of Beryl for 64 years. Dearly loved father and father-in-law of Jacqui and Phil (Berry), Shelley and Daryl, and Cathy. Precious grandad Koro of Te Awhiroa, Nicole, Henry, Kahu, Madeline, George, Amy, and Eva Louisa. Great-grandad Koro of Te Ariki and Freddy. Dear friend of Marcel and Barry. Loved brother and brother-in-law of Dale and David Garratt, and uncle of Melinda and the late Rachel. Loved brother-in-law of Don (deceased) and Rosalie Higgins (Nelson), and uncle to Michelle, Sharon, and Lisa and Paul (deceased). Thank you so much to the fabulous team at Edith Cavell Lifecare and Dr Brendon Kite. Messages for the Sweet family may be sent to PO Box 26112, Christchurch 8148. A Memorial for George will take place at Aldersgate, 309 Durham Street North, Christchurch, on Sunday, October 2, at 2.00pm.

George, your life and influence continue, I am now a 'senior' supervisor and today I am giving a poem of yours to a new counsellor for her wedding gift. You gave me this poem perhaps 30 years ago,

I´ve only just become aware of George´s passing... he was such a taonga in the counselling world in Aotearoa. I remember him as a mentor & workshop leader over many years & I learned so much from him. My late condolences to his family. Thank you George for your presence, bring & wisdom.

I remember many times spent with George over coffee, in consultation and in silence. Lots of laughter wisdom and honest sharing of things of importance to us both. Although so much his junior he always made me feel an equal I am privileged to have known him and saddened by his passing.
