SHIRLEY NEAL Obituary

NEAL, SHIRLEY LORRAINE (nee FARR) We are sad to announce the passing of our mother Shirley Neal, nee Farr. She passed away peacefully, on February 8, 2022, in Fergus, ON, at the age of 94, with family by her side. Shirley was born December 2, 1927, in Toronto, to William and Elizabeth Farr. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years "Bucky" Durnin Neal and her brothers Bill (Jean) and Herb (Betty). She is survived by her seven children: Terry (Janet), Randy (Paula), Patty Tummonds (Bob), Jimmy (Peggy), Kathy de la Fosse (Tim), Billy and David (Donna); and 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Jean Neal. Shirley, born in Toronto and raised in Mimico, married Bucky in 1950 and they started their family in New Toronto before moving to Applewood Acres (Mississauga) in 1961, where they raised their brood. Shirley was smart, feisty and a dedicated mother and grandmother. Their home on Bartlett Lane was a great place to be a kid which is why there were always numerous neighborhood kids around whom she treated as one of her own. Her greatest pleasure was being surrounded by her children and grandchildren, baking, cooking, playing, and celebrating with them. She especially loved those summers spent with her seven kids at the family cottage on Lake Muskoka. Shirley's and Bucky's social life included their large group of friends at Faustina Hockey Club, with whom they traveled to warmer climes and attended numerous dances/social events. Shirley was a buzzsaw... all the way into her mid eighties, out five days a week walking to aqua fitness, and socializing by playing golf, euchre, bridge, and shuffleboard. Her hobbies included reading and knitting sweaters, toques, and mittens. Her grandchildren love their coveted Gramma Shirl sweaters. She and Bucky loved playing golf as a family usually at Lakeview Golf Course. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the wonderful staff at Wellington Terrace LTC for their compassionate care and support. A private family celebration of Shirley's life will be held later. If you would like to donate in Shirley's honour, please consider the Heart & Stroke Foundation or Alzheimer Society of Canada.
