Gemma McKENZIE-CLAUSEN Obituary

22.5.1975 – 17.6.2025

After a courageous battle, Gemma passed away peacefully on June 17, 2025. Beloved wife and best friend of Bernie. Adored and proud mother of Mimi, Monte, and Bruno. To the McKenzie family, she was a treasured daughter to Brooke and the late Lesley, and a fun, cheeky younger sister and sister-in-law to Brigette and Daniel, and Amy and Nugget. An encouraging aunty to Hugo, Oscar, Louis, Alex, and Scarlett. Beloved grand-daughter, niece and cousin. To the Clausen family, Gemma was a deeply respected daughter-in-law to Luisa and the late Michael. She was a cherished sister-in-law to Paul and Lynette, Gin, Ju, Dave and Tarsh, and Caroline and Eric. A much-loved aunty to her nieces and nephews. Gemma was a friend to many and left an impression on everyone she met. She was focused and determined, kind and considered, incredibly diplomatic, with a razor-sharp sense of humour and a generous heart. We will miss her more than words can ever express. Our deepest thanks to Halswell School for your unwavering support and care for our family. Our heartfelt thanks to the team at Christchurch Hospital - especially Izzy, Rebekah, Frances, Sam, Matthew, Richard and David - for the gentle and graceful care they gave Gemma. Also to Rhian of the Mount Pleasant Medical centre. Further thanks for the palliative care provided by Nurse Maude and Access. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made at the following link: https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/support-gemma-in-her-cancer-battle In accordance with Gemma's wishes a private cremation has been held.

Gosh just the saddest news - my heart goes out to her family as they try and adjust to all the firsts and process it all. Some think grief diminishes over time but no it stays with you always; you just slowly learn to live with it. I am sorry this has happened. Fly high, lovely lady thank you for all the memories from school days we certainly had some fun.

I was shocked to read of Gemmas passing. I worked with Gemma at St Martins School when Amelia Monty and Bruno were there. Such a lovely person nothing ever seemed a problem. To Bernie and family remember the wonderful memories and treasure those always and remember she will never be far from you.

Sending deepest condolences and love to Gemma´s family and friends. We went to high school together and I always found her a strong, fierce and loyal person. Hearing of her illness hit hard even though we hadn´t seen each other since school ended. Rest in peace dear Gem

Our dear dear Gemma... thank you for all the love and laughter over the 30 plus years of you being my sister in law and Aunty to my girl Molly...Even as you were battling through the last days, you had kind words of encouragement to say to Mol and myself and had us all laughing. What a trick you are! Its your time to rest and fall into the love of your lovely Mum and all those who have passed and loved you dearly. You have a huge crowd of fans here too with hearts full of love and sadness and many memories...Thank you for opening your heart to us all on your 50th party day.. it was so very special and was an incredibly loving way to allow us all to gather and celebrate you. Always missed J... but never forgotten. Love Ju & Mol xxxxx
