Garth and my father Chester Livingstone worked together at the British Consulate in Auckland, for a number of years. They looked after the ongoing affairs of Pitcairn Island, the smallest of all Britain's territories. Garth had been the sole teacher at the Pitcairn Island school for quite some time beforehand. My father greatly enjoyed the good humour and amiable nature of Garth, and my young family and I visited Garth and his talented landscape artist wife Leslie at their gallery in Twizel in January 2009. Condolences to all the family! Keith Livingstone.

First, my sympathy for the passing of your Husband, Father and Grand Father. My late parents Ellie and Bert Baldwin spoke very highly of Garth while teaching at Whataroa., My mother who cleaned the school was always speaking of him and how great he ran that school. Whataroa was very, very lucky to have Garth teach there and run the school. He I know also took part in the community with sport mainly football and was highly thought of in this part of the country. My parents would have expected me to make contact with you at this time. Another good man is gone but never forgotten. Angela Anderson (Baldwin) Hari Hari West Coast. God bless you all.

My first memory of Garth is of a new teacher arriving at Limehills School, riding into the school grounds astride his motorbike in 1956. Although he was only there for two terms, it started a wonderful lifelong friendship with our family. We have many fond memories of such a very special friend. From his involvement in sport, running, softball and rugby, to his service to Pitcairn Island and community service in his retirement, Garth always served willingly.
Lesley and Family, we also share your loss. Take comfort from the wonderful memories you have. Garth was not only a very special person to you all, but also a treasured friend of so many.
