Garry OVEREND Obituary

Dear Aunty Gail,
My heartfelt condolences to you. I´m so thankful that my girls and I were able to spend some time with Uncle Garry a little while ago, where he certainly got an earful of chatter. He was such a charismatic man, funny and such an inspiration with his cycling. We are going to miss him dearly.
Thinking of you especially, his wider whanau and our Harris tribe with the loss of a great man.
He will be missed by all of us lucky to have known him.

Garry was so welcoming when I started riding, and always a friendly face on the road. The past few years I have been able to ride very little and he and I have seen each other infrequently, usually riding in opposite directions. Whenever we did cross paths, Garry always, always, always brought a smile to my face with a hearty hello from the other side of the road.
When I think of Garry, I hear the sound of his disk wheel storming up behind me - a reflection of his formidable TT strength.
He is an important part of my cycling memories.

What a champion Garry was in his time here.
Gail and family our biggest sympathy's.
He left a lot of people with good memories in sport.
Sport is where I met him and I guess his days off were full of activity as well with many people.
He will be cherished by many and surely loved
deeply by family.

Died suddenly and unexpectedly in the ICU, Nelson Hospital, May 26, 2023. Loved and cherished partner of Gail, loved son of the late Richard and Edna, much loved brother and brother-in-law of Lesley and the late Terry McDonald, Janette and Owen Roberts, Dawne Overend, Glenda and Mark Woodward, Catherine Overend, and Brent and Julie Perkins. Garry was a special uncle to all his nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
